TELL ME SOMETHIN GOOD

Hey guys! Been so busy. Hope that Womanizer post was distracting enough.
While I was out, here’s some of the stuff I did…
1. Experienced Marie’s Crisis.
If you haven’t been there, GO. (Actually, if you haven’t been there and you like or can tolerate showtunes and love duh-ra-ma, GO.) It’s a 7-nights-a-week Broadway sing-along…with a mostly male clientele beefing up the baritone section. I loved it with every thread of my theatre-kid being! “What I Did For Love” was my favorite song of the night.
Also, a guy made his female friend introduce us, and he came over and was like “I’ve been staring at you all night. I always find the most attractive girl in the crowd. I just wanted to tell you that you look great!” He definitely did not want my number, haha, but I was sooo happy. It’s been a long time since a boy of any persuasion has laid on the flattery that thick! :)
2. Performed “Purple Rain” while Ashford and Simpson and Freddie Jackson sang backup @ Sugar Bar for Open Mic Night.
(The audience held up candles during the outro. It was pure heaven.)

Every Thursday night, classic soul duo (and married couple) Ashford and Simpson appear at this bar–which they own–and host a kickass open mic. They sit in the front (sometimes with celeb friends) and sing backup to EVERY SINGLE SONG. It’s covers only, which makes it easier, but still…their repertoire is endless.
There were some killer voices there the night I went. Also, there was this one chick–a big blond girl with a teeny tiny black dress, dance tights, and jazz shoes on–who did a choreographed interpretive dance while singing “I Didn’t Mean To Turn You On” by Cherrelle. And when I mean choreographed–girl was doing high-kick after high-kick, foot flicks, complicated cheer-esque arm movements, and all kinds of spins on what was basically four square feet of stage space. I’ve been scouring the Internet for clips of this, but I can’t remember her last name and I don’t know how to spell her first name. She was selling DVDs after her song; I should have totally bought one!
3. Performed at the 2009 GLBT Expo @ the Javits Center in NYC.

Will post the photos tomorrow — I tried out a brand new look! The whole event and performance was a ton of fun. I’ve never sung to a track before. It was actually pretty liberating to just dance all over the stage all by myself. Yet another strategy to add to my bag O pizzazz!!
Sariah, who I run into often but always manage to miss her performances, was there with two dancers; I was so sad that I had to leave and miss what was probably a really fierce set!
There was many a drag queen in attendance — my favorite was the hot mess Tina Turner impersonator. She was not even TRYING to look like a lady in the face area. Come on, Fake Tina; give it some effort! Second place for Hot Messitude was the leotard-clad Beyonce-esque drag queen who wore a tail to match her leopard print outfit. They both need lessons from Nina Flowers and Bebe Zahara Benet!!!
Here is some food for thought.
Recently got this comment about my blog: “Why does every post have to be about YOU?!?”
Hahahaha.
