Hello again, you wonderful, sexy Internet explorers! So, September 13 was my birthday, and I’m psyched to report that tons has happened in my world since I turned 23 (with my sister from anotha mister, Hayley!)
As my b-day present, my parents bought me *elated gasp* a sewing machine! My nieghbor just taught me how to thread it today, and I bought my first dress pattern! Watch out, world, here I come, newly re-invented as a dressmaker!
So…a few weeks before my birthday, on September 2, I did a hilarious interview with Kevin Dombrowski on JamNow.com (listen to the whole thing by clicking the link!) It’s an interactive radio show on which the guests perform, shoot the breeze, and goof off in general. Kevin and I discussed such important world issues as synesthesia (I’m a proud owner of this “superpower”), serious celebrity crushes, and my high school talent show. We also wrote a melancholy ballad about a half-empty bottle of Dasani. (I’m wearing Fox Clothing, a brand by which I am sponsored!)
On Sept 9, I went to my first fashion party at Socialista in NYC, sponsored by the Brazilian fashion line Iodice. I’ve never been surrounded by so many beautiful people before! I met Val Emmich, singer/songwriter and “Ugly Betty” actor. He was super-cute, and made lots of eye contact, which must be the actor MO whenever meeting someone for the first time. Ya learn something new every day! Anyway, I do love the Iodice clothing.
The week of Sept 15 is what I’d like to call a “boys’ club” week. I’m constantly infiltrating this man’s world we know as the music industry. I love it and I get a total kick out of being the only one in the room with a vajayjay!
I went to WOR 710 to do an interview and one-song performance on the Joey Reynolds radio show on 9/15 — which went really well, despite how challenging it was! I was in a room with three rather “mature” — and extremely seasoned and successful –dudes. It was extremely humbling. Joey’s the father of “shock-jock” broadcasting; indie-folker Steve Wynn has written for artists as big as Black Crowes, and John McEuen has been in the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band for over 40 years, making records and touring and the whole thing!
Fortunately, I’ve always had one foot in the present and one in Retro-Land…I was that kid who hung out with the adults all the time…so I silently thanked my parents for that! We had plenty to talk about, most of it pretty raunchy…
The next day, 9/16, was even more challenging! I did an audition for a show called “The Weekly Riff” on the music channel FUSE. Yet again, I was put in a room with 3 dudes (2 rappers and a comedian, no less!)…this time, I was dressed in my magenta leggings, my half-price hot-pink Louboutins I bought myself for the b-day, and a t-shirt I cut, sewed, and bedazzled wit”I *Heart* NJ” emblazoned on it. Can we say 80s Strip streetwalker?!
The mediator asked us to be obnoxious and toolish…and you guys know me. I have a lot to say, and I’ve got my own eccentric set of opinions, but I’m nice, not jerky! But somehow, the rebel jerk inside me came through and I did get my time to shine during the round-table discussion of pop culture hot-button issues. Wish me luck, and maybe you’ll see me on an episode of The Weekly Riff sometime this year! Stay tuned.
Later that night, I did a teaser performance at the Cattle Call drag competition show at NYC club Therapy…I was there to promote my 3-week residency coming up (8pm on 9/23, 9/30, and 9/7). That was by far the hardest performance and biggest (but toughest) crowd ever!! It’s SO HARD to follow a lineup of hot, talented, sexy drag queens. I’m going back to do another teaser at 11pm on Monday 9/22, and you BET I will try my damndest to win over the audience!
(Archiver’s note: check out the interview on OutImpact.com to hear about how I did that night!)
In honor of the sewing machine and the incredible drag queens, here are my Top 10 fashion (or, well, retail) lines, in no particular order:

2. Betsey Johnson — (elle.com) from Fall 2008 Ready-to-Wear.
3. Anna Sui — (elle.com) from Fall 2008 Ready-to-Wear.
4. Patricia Field — love the “Sex and the City” styling, the HSN line, the boutique, everything with her name on it.
5. Loehmann’s — I bought these Converse by John Varvatos jeans there…initially $225 and I got them for $49.99! Yesss.
6. Christian Louboutin — the most amazing shoes in the world.
7. American Apparel — for the leggings!
8. Forever 21 — almost everything I have is from there.
10. Fox Clothing! — I’m sponsored by them and cannot get over it. I actually wore this shirt to the Joey Reynolds radio show.
